The Battle of Dogger Bank
The British declared war on the Dutch republic, bringing it into the american revolution. The Dutch had supplied the Americans and shipped French goods to the Americans, in the support of their independence effort. The battle took place in the north sea, a marginal sea located between Great Britain, Scandinavia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, on August 5, 1781. The British were lead by Vice Admiral Sir Hyde Parker and the Dutch were lead by Vice Admiral Johan Zoutman. Each had seven ships so the casualties were high on both sides. 246 people died, 742 people were wounded during the war, and 1 Dutch ship sank. Even though the Dutch claimed victory over the British, it had no real impact on the general course of the war.
